The Young Performers Showcase, a benefit concert for Santa Cruz City Schools music programs, features talented, young local performing artists, ages 13-28. Presented by Cruzville Productions, under the auspices of the Santa Cruz Education Foundation, this exciting extravaganza of singers, dancers, players and jugglers is one of the community’s most highly anticipated events. The Showcase is terrific family entertainment for a great cause.
Featured performers in the 2011 Showcase include:
- Rock trio Almost Chaos
- Santa Cruz Ukulele Club
- Jugglers Noah and Robin
- Singer/songwriter Bridget Johnson
- Classical guitarist JP McShane
- Ballerina Corrinne Sampson
- UCSC a capella singers The Hightones
- Hip hop dancers Luis Sanchez and Infinity Krew
- Special performance by singer Alysha Antonino, backed by local favorites 7 Come 11
Emcee for the evening is Sven Davis from Planet Cruz Comedy Hour. A “50/50” Raffle and Silent Auction will also benefit school music programs.
The showcase is the brain child of local therapist and musician, Rick Linzer with friends Alan Heit (the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dentist), Colin Alder (TV Producer and lap steel guitar builder) and Steven Bignell (publisher and owner of Journeyworks Publishing). Rick and the team scoured the streets, clubs and schools of Santa Cruz to uncover 10 superbly talented, local, young performing “acts” who could sing, dance, play or perform.
American Idol contestant James Durbin was a featured performer in both the 2009 & 2010 showcases. Come on April 9 to discover the stars of the future.
The first showcase in May 2009 raised $4000 for music programs; the 2010 event topped $15,000.
